Knose Pet Insurance is an Australian provider offering flexible policies for dogs and cats, where owners can tailor the annual limit (up to $25,000), benefit percentage (70%, 80%, or 90%), and annual excess, with optional extras such as dental illness, behavioural cover, and specialised therapies. Its modular approach positions Knose as highly customisable among competitors, but the pricing strategy is not publicly transparent and assistance services are missing; standout features include high reimbursement rates and the ability to adjust core plan variables for different budgets. Knose is particularly suitable for younger pets, purebreds needing customisable extras, and owners seeking to prioritise high reimbursement ratios or optional coverage, though less ideal for those on very tight budgets or requiring comprehensive premium transparency. Backed by Knose Insurance Pty Ltd (no public revenue/premium data available), the brand’s financial reliability isn't fully detailed; Trustpilot reviews offer a modest score of 3.3/5 from 5 reviews, with reports of both fast (1 day) and delayed (over 1–2 months) claims processing, suggesting variability in reimbursement timelines.

Knose Guarantees

Knose Pet Insurance is highly customisable, letting policyholders choose their annual limit (up to $25,000), reimbursement rate (70–90%), and annual excess, with optional extras for dental, behavioural, and specialised therapy cover.
Both accident and illness (excluding routine and preventive care) are standardly covered; consult fees and certain add-ons can be included or omitted to manage price.
Unlike most competitors, Knose offers immediate accident cover (1 day) and impressively short illness waiting periods (14 days), as well as direct access to overseas coverage in New Zealand and Norfolk Island (up to 60 days).
However, major exclusions include any pre-existing conditions, breed restrictions, no routine/wellness care, and limited customer support or non-insurance assistance.
Strengths include its flexibility, modern product structure, and the ability to pay only for what you need, but those seeking comprehensive preventative benefits or broader support might find Knose less suitable.

Knose Flexible Plan Coverage Details

Good to know: Waiting period for certain conditions (e.g. cruciate ligament, dysplasias, IVDD, dental illness if >1 year old, and behavioural conditions) is 6 months. Pre-existing conditions—including bilateral and recurring—are permanently excluded (waivers not available). Vet consult fee cover can be excluded to reduce premium but then is never reimbursed. Overseas treatment is only in New Zealand or Norfolk Island and subject to trip duration and documentation. Claims and customer service are available weekdays, not 24/7.

Knose Prices

Knose positions itself as a competitive, fully digital insurer with a streamlined approach that keeps administrative overhead low and makes cover affordable for most pet owners.
Its flexible options (customisable annual limit, reimbursement rates, and excess) allow you to adapt cover for price, while 70–90% reimbursement rates align with or slightly undercut traditional brands—especially where optional vet consult, dental, or behaviour extras are excluded.

Pricing is generally mid-range to slightly below average, particularly for young pets and digital-first shoppers who value paperless claims and minimal legacy cost structure.
However, for owners who add all available extras and choose maximum reimbursement, Knose can become as costly as some comprehensive traditional providers, but usually without app-based features or a wide assistance network.

Overall, Knose is best suited for price-conscious but quality-focused pet owners who want flexibility and no-frills digital management.

What is the Knose reimbursement rate?

With Knose’s highest-tier plan (90% cover, $25,000 annual limit, $100 excess), you’ll be reimbursed for eligible vet costs after the annual excess is deducted. Below are a few practical examples to help you estimate your out-of-pocket costs compared to going uninsured.

icon

Emergency surgery for intestinal obstruction

Total vet costs: $3,200

Deductible amount to subtract: $100 (annual excess, applied to your first claim of the policy year)

Amount reimbursable after deductible: $3,200 – $100 = $3,100

90% of that amount reimbursed: $3,100 × 90% = $2,790

👉 You receive a reimbursement of $2,790.

ℹ️ With Knose, the excess applies just once per year. This means future claims will be subject only to the reimbursement rate until you reach your yearly benefit limit.

icon

Dental treatment for severe periodontal disease (optional dental, add-on selected)

Total vet costs: $900 (scale, polish, extractions)

Deductible already used on a previous expense this year

Amount reimbursed at 90%: $900 × 90% = $810

👉 You receive a reimbursement of $810.

ℹ️ Dental cover must be selected as an optional extra. A 6-month waiting period applies for most dental illness coverages.

icon

Reimbursement for Gastroenteritis Treatment

Total vet costs: $1,150 (consultation, blood tests, IV fluids, medication)

Deductible already used on previous claim

Amount reimbursed at 90%: $1,150 × 90% = $1,035

👉 You receive a reimbursement of $1,035.

ℹ️ All further claims in that policy year will use the 90% reimbursement rate; the annual limit applies across all claims per year.

Assistance Knowledge Base

Knose does not provide key assistance features commonly expected by pet owners, such as a 24/7 emergency vet line, teleconsultation, or advance payment solutions, which means clients must pay all vet bills upfront and manage emergencies independently.
While claims can be managed online through a digital portal, there is no evidence of a dedicated mobile app or a partner vet network, limiting technological convenience and seamless in-clinic claim experience.
Policyholders have access to overseas vet cover only for trips to New Zealand or Norfolk Island, and only for a short duration.
The absence of payment facilities or service innovations, such as instalment plans or pre-authorised payments, means that Knose focuses narrowly on standard reimbursement rather than comprehensive support or value-added services.

FAQ

Do I have to pay upfront for veterinary fees with Knose?

Yes, you need to pay your vet directly at the time of treatment. Knose does not offer an advance payment or third-party payment system, so you claim for reimbursement after paying your bill. Once your claim is processed and approved, you’ll be reimbursed according to your policy’s coverage and benefit percentage. Claims are typically paid by bank transfer.

How do I cancel my pet insurance policy with Knose?

You can cancel your Knose policy at any time by contacting Knose via phone or email and providing your policy details and a written notice. There is no required notice period. You may be asked to provide documentation such as proof of your pet’s death, rehoming, or no longer being in your care. Any refund will be calculated on a pro-rata basis depending on your unused premium.

What will my out-of-pocket costs be with Knose?

Your out-of-pocket costs depend on your chosen annual excess, the benefit percentage (70%, 80%, or 90%), and the total eligible vet bill. After subtracting any annual excess from your bill, Knose pays your selected percentage, and you pay the remainder. For example, if your vet bill is $1,000, the excess is $100, and you have a 90% benefit percentage, Knose reimburses $810 and you pay $190.

What is not covered under a Knose policy?

Knose excludes pre-existing conditions, routine and preventive care, elective treatments, breeding or pregnancy, some hereditary conditions, and specific banned breeds. Optional extras are needed for dental illness, behavioural conditions, or specialised therapies. Always review the Product Disclosure Statement for detailed exclusions and waiting periods that apply to your policy.

Are there any waiting periods with Knose?

Yes, waiting periods apply for most coverages: accidents are covered after 1 day, illness after 14 days, and there is a 6-month wait for dental illness, behavioural conditions, and some specified conditions unless otherwise stated. These waiting periods may be waived for some conditions based on supporting vet certification at sign-up. Full details are outlined in the Product Disclosure Statement.
